Editor, author and features writer for the motoring, news and lifestyle press
After having my first article published in a national magazine at the
tender age of 16 and being paid the grand sum of £40 for my troubles, I
knew I'd found my niche in the world. Yes, a life of professional
writing was the way forward for me – especially as getting paid for doing something I felt passionate about seemed rather a good idea.
We're going back to 1981, a time when I spent every spare few moments
outside education making a nuisance of myself with magazine editors and
publishers alike. And it paid off, with freelance commissions appearing on
a regular basis – until 1986, when I was offered my first staff position, as
editorial assistant on Sports Car Monthly magazine.
A lot has happened since then. I’ve contributed to countless magazines and newspapers over the years, I’ve been editor of five national titles and I’ve written a total of seven non-fiction books to date. But what’s been particularly enjoyable has been the variety of my work, having written for a wide range of different sectors of the market, covering a vast array of subjects.
As somebody who’s always willing to consider a new challenge, I’m open to ideas and commissions at all times. From a one-off feature to a regular series, from a book commission to a magazine launch – whatever your needs as an editor or publisher, my experience could prove invaluable.
